Youth Achievements
The Centre established and equipped 3 Youth Friendly Centres with necessary equipment like games, library, restaurant and qualified personnel. Over 5,535 young persons have accessed the games facilities in the various Centres.
The Centre has trained 708 peer educators who have reached out to about 1.152,000 million young persons with Reproductive Health information, civic education and interpersonal skills. In addition, 5,984 young persons were counseled and tested for HIV/AIDS out of which 809 were found positive and 12,073 found negative. The Centre established a support group called Living Together Support Group to provide support for young persons who tested positive to HIV/AIDS. The Centre has trained 20 members of the Support Group on various income generating skills and assisted one of the support group members with sewing machine.
To support the activities of Peer Educators in various schools, the Centre has visited and established 32 Health Clubs in 32 schools.
To promote skills development, 415 young persons were empowered with various skills to produce compressed earth bricks, home management, computer/internet and lifesaving skills.
The Centre has organized 20 successful youth camps for young persons the only such camp in Nigeria which has attracted 900 young persons from Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Edo and Ebonyi.
To encourage families to support youth activities, the centre instituted the “Family Investment Award”. Three families have so far benefited namely, Mr. & Mrs. Alex Daniang, Mr. & Mrs. Adotse Samuel and Sen. Suleiman Adokwe and family. In addition, the Centre was able to send 12 young persons to National Exchange and 3 to International Youth Exchange Programmes.
Two media sponsored radio and television programmes were created, widow of Hope and it’s our World on HIV/AIDS and Reproductive health. The programmes have been on for the past three years and have reached out to 500,000 young persons and adults Nasarawa and neighbouring states.
In the area of education, the Centre’s library has remained a valuable source of information to young persons and researchers. Over 1, 154 young persons and 312 adults have accessed library services.
In view of the increasing number of graduating youth camp participants, there was a growing need to harness their potentials and organized them for the development of the state, a NACWYCA Youth Forum was formed in 2005. Over the years the forum members have been involved in community development, community outreaches, environmental sanitation, training of peer educators and skills development.
