Women Achievements

In recognition of the importance of Women and children in the activities of the Centre and the need to re-organize the Women components of the Centre, the Women and Children Bureau was established in 2007 for the brief period that the unit has existed; it has registered and supported 22 women organization on organization development. In addition, it has empowered 30 widows in various skills and providing financial support, sewing machine, knitting, brick making, tomatoes preservative machine and a micro credit support of 500,000.

During the period under review, the unit identified 22,800 OVC out of which 9,779 care givers were trained on various IGA to provide support for OVC and currently, the unit is providing educational support to 25 OVC spread across the State.

During the period the department has rescued 5 Women and Children 4 trafficking, the unit is currently monitoring 4 women led NGOs in the State. The Centre was also in the fore fort of the advocacy on the passage and implementation of Child Right Law in the State.

In addition, the Centre has published and distributed 2000 copies of the simplified Version of the Child’s Right Law to protect the right of Juvenile in conflict with the law. In collaboration with UNICEF and USAID and Palladium under the SCALE Project, the unit built a child friendly space at the Nigeria police central station Lafia to promote children’s rights. The Centre has embarked on several gender awareness programmes, it has also simplified and published 500 copies of the National Gender Policy. The unit was involved in the training of political women leaders towards the 2007 elections.
