On September 6, 2024, the members of the Executive Team of the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission paid an Advocacy Visit to the Centre for Women, Youth & Community Action (NACWYCA). In his opening remarks, the leader of the delegation, who represented the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Saleh Barde thanked the Executive Director of NACWYCA, Dr. Nawani Aboki for the audience granted the team.
The purpose of the visit was to advocate for disability rights inclusion in the affairs of every work place in Nasarawa State. They hinted that following the passage of the Disability Rights Commission bill into a law by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and its subsequent assent by the Executive Governor, it has become imperative for them to ensure full implementation of the provisions of the law. They cited examples of how many public spaces in the state are non-compliant to disability rights. They requested the Centre to be in the forefront of partnering with the Commission to ensure that the implementation of the law across the state. They also requested for the Centre’s assistance in the forthcoming event they are planning in December.
In his response the Executive Director, Dr. Nawani Aboki thanked the Commission’s delegation for the visit and expressed delight that he can now see the reality of the bill he helped to craft into law. He promised to do whatever he can through the Centre to partner with the Commission to ensure that their objectives are realized.
